Our location

The authentic Andalusian village of Maro lies on the mediterranean south coast of Spain, where rugged mountains meet unspoilt beaches.

This is the eastern Costa del Sol, with one of the mildest subtropical climates in Europe.

Surrounded by plantations growing avocado, mango, papaya and banana, as well as a wide range of vegetables for market, Maro is home to the well-known Nerja Caves, boasting a spectacular underground cathedral of limestone.

Activities in the local area to enjoy include:

  • Guided walks
  • Kayaking and canoeing
  • Yoga
  • Horse riding
  • Golf
  • Cycling
  • 4×4 and quad-bike hire

Hiking and cycle routes start on our doorstep! Hotel Casa Maro offers guided walking tours, group activities and tailor-made regional and cultural programs. Make new friends while wandering through the spectacular pine forests, go rock climbing, make a tour with a 4×4 jeep, canoe the placid coastal waters or see one of the famous flamenco concerts in the region.

The rugged mountains of the Sierra de Almijara nearby are forested with mediterranean pine, interspersed with aromatic plants such as thyme, lavender, juniper and rosemary. Wild animals to look out for include mountain goat, wild boar and eagles. Lizards bask on warm rocks.

Visit the bustling nearby town of Nerja, with its Spanish and European bars and restaurants, and enjoy live music in one of the rock cafés. For those who like to dance the night away there are discotheques, lounge and house clubs.

Granada is about one hour away by car. See the famous Alhambra palace and gardens world heritage site (advance booking required).

Málaga is even closer. There you can visit the Picasso museum and the artist’s birthplace, among other artistic draws. The city has a vibrant indoor market set in a maze of historic streets, as well as a range of fashionable shopping outlets.

From Hotel Casa Maro you can explore the beautiful region and make a daytrip to the superb nature of the Alpujarras, positioned at the foothill of the majestic Sierra Nevada, well known for its diverse natural landscape and abundance of nature and wildlife. Come for the winter skiing. Or enjoy a ride through Axarquía with its pueblos blancos, typical white Andalusian villages, which seem to be thrown at the ridges and foothills of the spectacular mountain scenery.

We are also well-placed to reach the historic cities of Sevilla, Córdoba and Cádiz.

Whenever you visit you can probably find a fiesta happening somewhere in Spain!
